Purdue vs Northwestern Odds: Line, Spread, Over/Under

Following a thrilling 68-65 loss to Indiana in their last contest, the 15-3 Purdue Boilermakers will try to get back on track today as they host the 9-7 Northwestern Wildcats at 1:00 PM EST. WynnBET has Purdue as a 13-point favorite (-110) today and -975 on the moneyline ($97.5 to win $10) while Northwestern is +650 ($10 to win $65). The over/under is set at 149.

Purdue vs Northwestern Prediction Tonight

What a week it’s been for Purdue. After a double-overtime win against Illinois, the Boilermakers faced one of the fiercest crowds in America in Assembly Hall and nearly came out victorious. They’ve got to be emotionally and physically exhausted and will appreciate the friendly confines of Mackey Arena.

They take on a Northwestern team that has covered the spread just once in their last 6 games. With a 13-point line in this one, oddsmakers expect Purdue to be able to earn some much-needed relaxation.

Purdue is such a steep favorite with good reason. They still boast the best offense in the country, per Bart Torvik, and take on a Northwestern team that struggles to shoot, ranking 235th nationally in 2-point shooting and 106th in 3-point shooting. With the 4th-best offensive turnover rate in the country but just the 137th-fastest pace, the Wildcats should have long possessions that end in a lot of missed shots.

Northwestern’s strength is their 25th-ranked 2-point defense. They can be beaten on the perimeter with the 251st-ranked 3-point defense, but as I wrote here I expect Purdue’s legs to be tired after such an exhausting week and anticipate them to shoot below their season-long average from behind the arc.

With tired legs against a team that can’t shoot, I love the under 149 in this matchup for the Boilermakers. This is the highest total for a Northwestern game in their last 30 contests, but I think Purdue will be content to play a slower game and ride to an easy win. Lock in the under as my best bet as Purdue relaxes a bit and gets some rest for their stars.
