Purdue Boilermakers in the NFL: 2014 Season, Week 5
By Mathew Muncy
Cliff Avril – DE – Seattle Seahawks
When you look at the stat sheet for Avril, you’ll find one tackle and two quarterback hits. Nothing fancy, until you watch the replay of the vicious hit Avril had on Washington Redskins quarterback
Kirk Cousins.
Avril’s ability to disrupt the passing game has always been his special talent. He doesn’t come away with big numbers, although he has averaged 9.25 sacks over the last four seasons, and is only on pace for four sacks this year. But with how dangerous all 11 guys are on the Seahawks defense, Avril doesn’t need to make the big plays, just setup his teammates for the big plays. He has recorded five tackles and one sack so far this season.
