It only took one start for redshirt freshman quarterback Austin Appleby to be named a Manning Award Star of the Week.

More from Purdue Football

Appleby went 15-of-20 for 202 yards and a touchdown against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday. He also added 76 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Pretty solid start to his career.

The victory was not only Appleby’s first of his career, but also head coach Darrell Hazell’s first Big Ten win of his career and the Purdue Boilermakers first Big Ten win since Week 12 of 2012.

Each week eight quarterbacks are named as the Manning Award’s “Stars of the Week.” The award is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Appleby is the first Purdue quarterback to be named a Manning Award Star of the Week since Robert Marve in Week 13 of the 2012 season.

One of the eight quarterbacks will be named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week based on fan voting. The top vote-getter will be named the winner. To vote for Appleby, head over to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook Page, “Like” them and then “Like” Appleby’s photo to cast your vote.

The other Manning Awards Stars of the Week are: Deshaun Watson (Clemson), Dak Prescott (Mississippi State), Connor Halliday (Washington State), Mike Bercovici (Arizona State), Shane Carden (East Carolina), Nick Marshall (Auburn) and Darell Garretson (Utah State).
