Antavian Edison: Number 7 Most Important Player/Unit

Edison is the most proven wide receiver the Boilers have. He is also the only one that has shown play-making ability. Raheem Mostert has shown it on special teams, but offense will be completely different without a head start running the ball. With Justin Siller graduating, Edison is going to be relied on even more. Gary Bush and OJ Ross haven’t shown they can perform on a consistent basis. Edison finished the 2011 season with 584 yards on 44 receptions with 3 touchdowns.

Edison will also line up at running back since Ralph Bolden still recovering from ACL surgary and there were couple of transfers. With his quickness he can be a nice compliment to Akeem Shavers. Last year he had 124 yards rushing on 30 carries with 2 touchdowns. Hopefully we won’t see him much there, which would mean Shavers and Akeem Hunt are performing well.

During his years at Purdue, Edison has relied his quickness to perform. It will be imperative that he works on his physicality. Teams are going to focus most of their attention on him and try to slow him down. This year I hope to see more big play attempts with him flying down the field. Last year he was mostly used in slants to the inside and outside as well as wide receiver screens.

This will be a big year for Edison. There’s no doubt he can get open when he needs to. Our quarterback(whoever that may be) just needs to get him the ball. Let his feet do the rest.
