TheBoilingPoints.com will be simulating the 2012-13 college football season in NCAA Football 13, which came out today. In case you were sitting at home trying to figure out how to spend the next three weeks while you wait for the Olympics to begin, check back at TheBoilingPoints.com every weekday at noon eastern to see the results.
We’ll be doing one game per day, but will simulate each game three times: once with Robert Marve at quarterback, once with Caleb Terbush at quarterback and once with Rob Henry at quarterback. Sorry Austin Appleby fans, we’ll hook you up when NCAA Football 14 comes out.
In week one, the Boilers face “FCS East” in the simulation since the game does not have FCS teams like Eastern Kentucky.
Read on for the week one results.
Simulation 1: Robert Marve
Marve led the Boilermakers to an impressive 63-9 win over FCS East in week one of the simulation. So impressive, in fact, that the computer pulled him in the fourth quarter and let Caleb Terbush get some work.
It didn’t start out dominant, however. FCS East was on the scoreboard first with a field goal from 36 yards out with 10:22 to go in the first quarter. They added to that lead three minutes later with a 32 yard field goal. The Boilermakers didn’t take long to respond, however. The game MVP Akeem Shavers scored on a 1-yard run with 5:04 left. Crosby Wright hauled in a 44-yard bomb from Marve minutes later to give the Boilers a 14-6 lead at the end of the first.
Akeem Hunt had touchdown runs of 8 and 47 yards in the last 5:36 of the second quarter for the quarters only points. Shavers scored again with 12:18 to go in the third quarter on a four yard run, then scored on a 10 yard run with 3:17 to go in the quarter for his fourth touchdown. Antavian Edison caught a 12-yard TD pass from Marve to give the Boilers their 21st point of the quarter with 25 seconds left.
The fourth quarter saw a five yard touchdown run by Hunt with 11:36 to go and a 45-yard interception return by Normando Harris on the ensuing defensive possession. Shavers was given the game MVP with 16 carries for 132 yards and 3 TDs.
Marve’s stats for the day were: 16-for-31, 249 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs through the air with a 130.1 passer rating. He was sacked twice on the day and his longest pass completion was 63 yards. He also rushed seven times for 18 yards, with a long of 10 yards.
Terbush, playing the backup role, was 1-for-6 for 14 yards.
Purdue totaled 553 yards on the day, including 40 rushes for 280 yards and 6 TDs. The defense held FCS East to 178 yards and 11-46 passing.
Read on to see how the Boilers did with Caleb Terbush at the helm.
