Purdue Football Predicted To Play On New Year’s Day
By Zach Langdon
Phil Steele, author of the popular “Phil Steele’s College Football Preview” magazine, has predicted the Purdue football team’s 2012 season will carry over into 2013.
Steele predicts the Boilers will be playing in Dallas, Texas’s TicketCity Bowl, which will take place January 1 at noon on ESPNU. This bowl game, which was first played in 2011, was won by Houston last year. Case Keenum led his team to a 30-14 win over Penn State in that game.
While it is good news that Steele predicts the Boilers will head to a bowl game for the second year in a row, his prediction isn’t all positive. The TicketCity Bowl takes the Big Ten’s #7 team, which would mean the Boilers finished 2012 in the bottom half of the league.
For what it’s worth, Steele predicts Wisconsin to win the Big Ten, followed by Michigan at #2 and Nebraska at #3. Shockingly, Steele doesn’t predict a bowl game for Indiana this year.
The Purdue football team ended its 2011 season with a win over Western Michigan in the Little Caesar’s Bowl, played in Detroit shortly after Christmas. In the 37-32 win, Purdue running back Akeem Shavers stepped up huge to fill in for injured running back Ralph Bolden, coming up with 149 yards on 22 carries.
