The Boiling Point: Purdue men’s basketball team adds Western Michigan game to schedule.

A new game has been added to the Purdue men’s basketball schedule. The Boilers will host Western Michigan on Nov. 23 in a bonus game as part of the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, the school announced on Friday. The game is set for 7 p.m. EST.

NCAA legislation permits teams to play a maximum of four games as part of exempt multi-team events, such as the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Boilermakers are thus permitted to play a team in the originally contracted field – Western Michigan, in this case – within 14 days of the start of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

The game has been approved by ESPN, the promoter of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, as part of the contractual arrangement, and will be considered part of the event in historical records.

Tickets for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off game against Western Michigan are currently on sale at the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office. Lower arena seats are available for $25 apiece, while upper arena tickets are priced at $15. Purdue students can purchase tickets for the WMU game at a cost of $12.

Purdue students and John Purdue Club members will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the game. The general public will be able to buy tickets beginning Monday, Oct. 17.
