Minor Basketball Recruiting Update
The Boiling Point: Some rumblings on men’s basketball recruiting.
Below is some general information on the happenings lately for men’s basketball recruiting:
-During the day on Friday(9/9) Purdue staff visited AJ Hammons at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. Hammons took an unofficial visit a couple weeks ago to Purdue. He doesn’t have an official scheduled yet for Purdue since he lives farther away, but can assume he will be taking one since Purdue is high on his list, if not the leader.
-Friday Night(9/9) Painter and two assistants were at 2012 target Gary Harris’ football game. Shows the importance of getting in front of his face to show how interested you are. Indiana coach Tom Crean(he’s probably the one clapping if you look for him) with two of his assistants and Michigan State coach Tom Izzo were also in attendance.
-2012 commits Rapheal Davis, Ronnie Johnson, and Jay Simpson will be taking official visits for the South East Missouri State game(9/16-9/18)
-Gary Harris will be making an official visit to Purdue for the Notre Dame game(9/30-10/2).
-Highly regarded 2014 target JaQuan Lyle will be taking an unofficial visit for the Notre Dame game(9/30-10/2).
-Davis, Johnson, and Simpson have also been talking to each other on Twitter about taking unofficial visits for the Purdue/ND game(10/1). 2013 commits Basil Smotherman and Kendall Stephens have been talking about visiting as well.
And for more of an FYI for those wondering what the differences between an unofficial and official visit are, its pretty simple. With an unofficial visit the prospect has to pay for everything and on an official visit the schools can pay for everything with some restrictions I’m assuming.
