The Boiling Point: Kyle Adams impressing Bears coach Lovie Smith.

Former Purdue tight end, Kyle Adams, has been impressing Bears coach Lovie Smith. Adams signed with the Bears as an un-drafted free agent. With the NFL lockout this year, is been especially hard for rookies to show what they are able to do in a short amount of time. It looks as though Adams versatility has helped him out.

"“We talk about the more you can do,” Lovie Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s not just lip [service] with us. In all those areas we look for, he can do, and he’s done well."

Adams is set to play at all four phases of special teams on Monday night against the New York Giants. He is also going to take snaps at full back, something he has never done at Purdue.  Special teams is always the quickest way for un-drafted free agents to make it onto the field.

In Bears’ offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s system, the tight ends will be primarily used for blocking. Increasing Adam’s chances for playing time is the trade of top tight end Greg Olsen, and the release of blocking tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.

Catch Kyle Adams in action tomorrow on Monday Night Football at 8 eastern on ESPN.
