Bengals Sign John Standeford
By Zach Langdon
The Boiling Point: The Cincinnati Bengals signed former Purdue receiver John Standeford today.
Former Purdue receiver John Standeford, who has had time in the NFL camps with the Redskins, Lions and Colts after going undrafted in 2004, has been signed by the Bengals.
Standeford has been mostly a practice squad player in his time in the NFL, except when he was with the Lions. During the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Standeford played in 11 games and made 16 receptions for 249 yards. He eventually signed with the UFL’s Virginia Destroyers in June of this year before being yanked back into the NFL by te Bengals.
The Bengals have a young, but talented group of receivers already on the roster, including their most recent first round pick, A.J. Green. What the Bengals lack is experience, especially after trading Chad Ochocinco for what was essentially a bag of rocks.
The Bengals face the Lions Friday in their first preseason game.
