The Boiling Point: Purdue assistant Jack Owens promoted.

Mens basketball coach Jack Owens has been named associate head coach for Purdue today. Owens has spent the last three seasons as an assistant.  Can’t really say what comes with being named to that position besides a salary bump.  I would assume that he will be more involved in day to day head coaching duties and be mentored by Matt Painter so Owens can be ready to take a head coaching job when one becomes available.

Paul Lusk was the previous associate head coach before he was named the head coach at Missouri State this year.  Owens is an outstanding recruiter, responsible for numerous players on the team as well as current commits in high school.  Here is what Painter and Owens told PurdueSports.com:

"“Jack has been a vital part of our success over the last few years, and he has earned the title of associate head coach,” Painter said. “He works hard, brings great energy to the office every day and has a great rapport with our players.”“I’m extremely thankful for this opportunity to grow professionally,” Owens said. “My time spent at Purdue has been great so far, and I have no doubt that we’ll be able to keep moving forward with the success we’ve had over the last few years.”"
