The Boiling Point: Purdue football recruit Austin Appleby earned Ohio’s top billing as a quarterback for the 2012 class.

Purdue was going after a big-time quarterback for its 2012 class and it appeared the Boilers got their man when Austin Appleby pledged a couple weeks back. OhioVarsity.com added some evidence to that when it ranked Appleby the state’s best QB, beating out Michigan State and Missouri recruits.

The site called Appleby “the total package.” Appleby is 6-foot-5 and almost 230 pounds.

"“He has a rocket arm, adequate mobility and a great understanding of the game.”"

Checking in at No. 2 just behind Appleby is MSU commit Tyler O’Connor. At No. 3 is Mizzou-bound Maty Mauk.

Appleby is a part of what is now an eight-man class for Purdue coach Danny Hope.
