Puerto Rico Tip-Off Field Finalized

The Boiling Point: The teams for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off that Purdue is taking part in this fall have been finalized.

The complete field for the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off that Purdue is heading to this fall has been announced. Joining the Boilers in Puerto Rico will be Alabama, Colorado, Iona, Maryland, Temple, Western Michigan and Wichita State. Each team plays 3 times in a bracket format with the championship being held on November 20th.


Both Purdue and Temple reached the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Wichita State topped Alabama in the NIT championship game, after the Crimson Tide defeated Colorado in the semifinals. Iona and Western Michigan both earned berths to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

This tournament helps give Purdue a more complete non-conference schedule. In addition to three teams from the Puerto Rico field, the Boilers also play West Virginia at home, Butler at Conseco, at Xavier and home against an ACC team as part of B1G/ACC challenge.

The Butler game is part of a doubleheader with Indiana and Notre Dame who will play each other. Purdue and Indiana will alternate years playing Butler and Notre Dame as part of the event.
