Out With the New, In With the Old?

The Boiling Point: Purdue announces “old” Purdue Pete stays.

After receiving harsh criticism on the “new” Purdue Pete, the “old” one is back.

"“The fans have spoken, and we are listening. They like the Purdue Pete they’ve known for the last 30 years, and that’s the one we’re going with,” athletics director Morgan Burke said in a press release."

Judging from this article it looks as though they aren’t even looking at making a better new one at this time. They are working at finding more cost effective ways to make/fix the current fiber glass head. Another rumor out there is that they will be compiling designs and letting students/fans vote on it. Guess we will see in time.

This is unlike how Purdue usually is. When debuting something they usually have a deal with it attitude and hope it works out in the end or people just forget about it or get bored talking about it. The ‘Maker’s All campaign comes to mind. Looks like Painter’s demands to committing to winning is reaching farther than we know. Could have been the wake-up call Purdue needed.
