Purdue Makes Comeback For Painter

The Boiling Point: Purdue men’s basketball coach Matt Painter is staying in West Lafayette.
Just hours ago, it appeared Purdue men’s basketball coach Matt Painter was headed to Columbia, Mo., to take over Missouri’s program. Well, that isn’t the case.
As of 4 p.m. EST, numerous reports, including ESPN.com and Gold and Black Illustrated, have surfaced that say Painter declined Missouri’s offer and will be back to coach the Boilers. Purdue’s players are being notified of the decision immediately.
To help further the information, Purdue senior Robbie Hummel recently tweeted “Great day for the boilers! Time to get back to work!!”
A big reason for Purdue’s resurgence in retaining the sixth-year coach was a counter offer on Monday night. That deal could be more than $2 million a year. That was backed up with a clear commitment to the program.
