Report: Purdue Counters With Considerable Raise
By Editorial Staff
The Boiling Point: Purdue comes up with considerable counter offer.
GoldandBlack.com, Rivals’ Purdue affiliated site, is reporting that Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke did everything he could on Monday night to pull together a counter offer for men’s basketball coach Matt Painter. The result, according to GBI, is a salary that exceeds $2 million annually. All of this information is sourced independent from the athletic department’s statement released earlier today.
Missouri has been open about its willingness to pay Painter around $2 million and flew down to Florida on Monday night to meet with Painter Tuesday morning.
Painter makes a base of $1.3 million annually, with bonuses in place to make another $1 million. But Painter’s salary alone might not be the complete issue. Painter wants his entire staff to get more money.
Also, there is a flight scheduled between Orlando, Fla., and Jefferson City, Mo., that just took off. That is likely the Missouri contingent heading back to Columbia, Mo. Whether or not Painter is headed back to Missouri is a different story.
