The Boiling Point: News on where Matt Painter will be next season is expected by noon Wednesday.
After another crazy day in the Matt Painter saga it appears fans from Purdue and Missouri will be waiting at least another 19 hours or so to find out the future of their programs.
According to the Kansas City Star and Indianapolis Star reporter Jeff Rabjohns, Painter is going to think about his decision after meeting with Missouri’s athletic department administration early Tuesday. Multiple sources reported that Painter has until noon on Wednesday to make a decision.
Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke likely made the decision process a bit more difficult for Painter after Burke was able to make a convincing pay raise for Painter. At the center of the decision is the commitment Purdue can provide Painter and the men’s basketball program, which goes beyond just his salary.
“The ball is in his court,” a source told the Kansas City Star. “Purdue has come up with more money (reports in Indiana say $2.3 million). They don’t want to lose him. He has genuine interest in the (Missouri) job. But he has leverage. I think he’s looking at the Xs and Os, the long term and short term.”
