Is Cuonzo Martin A Candidate For Mizzou Gig?
By Zach Langdon
The Boiling Point: An ESPN blogger was the first of what are likely to be many to suggest that Missouri will consider Cuonzo Martin, the former Boiler who almost got Missouri State to the Big Dance this year, to fill their men’s basketball coaching vacancy.
Cuonzo Martin almost led Missouri State from the basement of the Valley conference to the Big Dance in just a few years. Now, his name is coming up for every job from Tennessee to, most recently, Missouri. The Tigers have an opening now that Mike Anderson is headed to Arkansas, and Zo is already establishing himself in the area while recruiting for State.
At least one writer thinks they’ll consider it:
"The Tigers will also no doubt consider Missouri State coach Cuonzo Martin, who nearly got the long-dormant Bears to the NCAA tournament this season. Whether any of those coaches will be interested in the Missouri job is up for debate. Whether that job is a better one than Arkansas (or the remaining openings) is as well."
‘Zo will likely be competing against people like VCU’s Shaka Smart, Richmond’s Chris Moody, Marquette’s Buzz Williams and potentially even Butler’s Brad Stevens for some of the big-name gigs that are open… should he even want to move on.
