The Boiling Point: Purdue senior JaJuan Johnson won this year’s Big Ten scoring title with his 20.5 points a game.
The weekend wasn’t a complete loss for Purdue basketball. Despite losing at Iowa on Saturday, Purdue big man JaJuan Johnson did get some good news on Sunday as he won the Big Ten’ scoring title.
He averaged 20.5 points a game beating out Penn State’s Taylor Battle and Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor. Johnson edged them out thanks to 22 against the Hawkeyes, which was matched by Battle, who finished just a tenth of a point back at 20.4. Taylor lost some ground after scoring just eight against Ohio State on Sunday.
Johnson is the first Boiler to win the league title since Willie Deane in 2002. That year Deane had the highest scoring average for the entire season, not in just conference games. Johnson earned both distinctions, which Glenn Robinson also did in 1994.
