The Boiling Point: Purdue’s women’s basketball team fell to Penn State on Friday, 73-61, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
Purdue needed to beat Penn State for the third time this season to advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament, but couldn’t get it done. A day after beating Indiana for the third time this year, the Boilers were eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament 73-61. It was a match-up between No. 7 seed Purdue and No. 2 seeded Penn State.
The Boilers did hold a 31-30 halftime lead, but the Nittany Lions outscored Purdue 43-30 in the second half. Purdue was led in scoring by Courtney Moses’ 17 points off the bench. Drey Mingo added 14 and Brittany Rayburn had 11.
The Boilers sit at 20-11 and 9-7 in the Big Ten, which is good enough to get them into the NCAA Tournament. The question now is exactly where they will be seeded. The women’s selection show is Monday, March 14, at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN.
