Much Different Spring Football Practice Begins
By Editorial Staff
The Boiling Point: Purdue football hit the field on Wednesday for the beginning of spring practice, which is completely different than in year’s past.
Spring practice for the Purdue football team began on Wednesday and if it seems a bit early than normal, it is.
The Boilers normally got going after spring break, but will hold five practices before the time off from March 14-18 then resuming practice on March 21.
"“The way we’re going to do it is going to give us more time to study and get the younger guys into understanding the game instead of just playing it,” left tackle Dennis Kelly told a Lafayette newspaper. “That’s going to help us in the long run.”"
The earlier start time was decided on so that players can get going on offseason lifting and take part in student life before finals.
“I would like to enhance the student life for our players a little bit and end it a little earlier,” Hope said.
Certainly an interesting take from Hope.
As well as beginning practice earlier, Purdue coach Danny Hope has restructured practice so that there won’t be four a week. The change comes after Hope and the Boilers went through a rash of injuries last season.
Hopefully, the changes improve the product rather than diminishing the results that spring practice could yield.
