Purdue No. 10 In Sports Illustrated Power Ranking

The Boiling Points: Sports Illustrated’s Luke Wynn released his weekly power rankings in an entertaining piece. He puts Purdue at No. 10, and shows how unlikely it is that Jared Sullinger was spit on.


Luke Wynn of Sports Illustrated released his weekly power rankings today and has Purdue at No. 10, up nine spots from last week. He has Purdue at No. 10, and Wisconsin at No. 9. Ohio State is No. 2.

His piece on Purdue talks about how the NCAA Selection Committe admits it doesn’t discuss computer rankings such as Ken Pomeroy’s when it seeds teams. Yes, members may look at the data, but it isn’t required.

"“If you’re wondering why I used the Purdue blurb to address this, well … it’s because the Boilers would be among the teams most likely to get a boost from tempo-free data: They’d be a No. 2 seed in kenpom seeding, but they’re only a No. 4 in our latest mock bracket.”"

Wynn also breaks down the Sullinger spitting allegation by showing frame-by-frame footage of the Wisconsin students storming the court and outlining where Sullinger is. Let’s just say that Lee Harvey Oswalt would’ve needed to come back from the dead with his magic bullets and hawk a magic lugie to hit Sullinger.
