The Boiling Point: ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his latest version of his NCAA Tournament predictions, where he has Purdue headed to Washington, D.C., as a No. 3-seed.

Joe Lunardi is good at his job. At least, I assume so, because he gets paid some good money by ESPN. Still, every year I think he is horrible. Yes, he usually gets about all but two or three teams right in the NCAA Tourney, but most people would if they really thought about it. There are only 37 at-large bids to pick, and most of those are obvious.

Anyway, Lunardi’s biggest weakness, in my opinion, is projecting where teams are headed geographically. This week, he has Purdue headed to Washington, D.C., as the No. 3-seed, while No. 4-seed Louisville is headed to Chicago. He also has Arizona, Cleveland State and Michigan State/Boston College (play-in game) with Louisville’s bracket. Memphis, St. Johns and Princeton make up Purdue’s pod. I just don’t see the 4-seed getting rewarded above a No. 3-seed. Maybe I’m wrong though.
