Writer Behind Bo Ryan’s Hummel Rant Writes Column
By Zach Langdon
The Boiling Point: Jason King, the writer who inspired Bo Ryan’s rant last night, wrote a Pro-Purdue column for Yahoo! today titled, “Boiler Express Picks Up Steam.”
It may just be me, but I think Jason King of Yahoo! Sports missed the point in Bo Ryan’s rant last night. King dedicated a large part of his Purdue column on Yahoo! today to how much Bo is tired of Robbie Hummel.
"“Bo Ryan is sick of Robbie Hummel. The Wisconsin coach becomes agitated when asked about the Purdue senior during news conferences and it annoys him when television cameras show Hummel and his bum knee sitting at end of Purdue’s bench in street clothes. The way Ryan sees it, the story of Purdue’s oft-injured forward is played out.”"
No Jason, that wasn’t the point in Bo’s speech. The point in Bo’s speech was that he’s tired of people like you only showing up for big games and then asking a question that’s been asked to death.
This is the part of Bo’s speech that King quoted:
"“Robbie is my guy, but that’s old. This Purdue team … people ought to just cheer for them with who they’ve got. Because they’re pretty good.”"
This is what Bo actually said:
"“That’s getting old. That’s getting old. They’re a good team. They’ve had two All-Americans all season. Come on. That’s getting old. And, I mean, Robbie’s my guy! I’m not talking… This Purdue team, people should just cheer for them… with who they’ve got… because they’re good! Man. You can only beat a horse so long. I have to worry about stopping him next year! And you’re bringing him up now."
Way to change the quote to make it not sound like he was telling you your question was outdated, Jason.
