The Boiling Point: According to a tweet from GoldandBlack.com, Purdue has gotten a verbal commitment from 2013 basketball recruit Kendall Stephens.
It may seem like a long time from now, but Purdue men’s basketball coach Matt Painter has long been recruiting for his 2013 class and it paid off with a verbal commitment from Kendall Stephens on Monday, according to goldandblackillustrated.com. GBI passed the news along via Twitter, citing Kendall’s father, Everette.
Everette was a star for the Boilermakers in the mid ’80s, scored more than 1,000 points and was inducted into the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame this past fall with teammates Troy Lewis and Todd Mitchell.
Kendall is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from St. Charles East in Illinois. It was reported earlier by GBI.com that Stephens was offered a little more than a week ago, but wanted to make several visits before choosing Purdue. I saw him in Assembly Hall for the Purdue-Illinois game on Sunday and the Illini were pursuing his services.
Purdue already had one known verbal for the 2013 class in Fort Wayne point guard Bryson Scott. Based on roster numbers, this class is likely to be four deep.
