The Boiling Point: Purdue hired former San Francisco 49ers strength coach Duane Carlisle as its Director of Sports Performance, a newly-created position.

Purdue announced the hiring of Duane Carlisle as its Director of Sports Performance today. In this newly created position, Carlisle will oversee all 18 varsity sports and supervise the staff of strength, speed and conditioning coaches. He will report to Denny Miller, Purdue’s director of sports medicine.

"“I can’t wait to get started,” Carlisle said. “During the interview process, it was clear that Purdue has an administration and set of coaches committed to developing a championship culture and a vision for how sports performance plays a role in that process. My pledge is to roll up my sleeves and work with the coaches to ensure that all our student-athletes attain maximum potential. That is what I am trained to do, everything from strength, power development, speed, recovery, regeneration and diet.”"
