Dakich Walking An Interesting Line

It’s not often a former IU coach willingly comes back to Mackey Arena, let alone for a battle between Purdue and the Hoosiers. Well, Dan Dakich is making it happen tonight.

He’s the color commentator for tonight’s in-state showdown, which brings a couple issues to mind. It’s not like Dakich was a West Coaster who landed at IU for his coaching career. This guy is Cream and Crimson through and through. He played under coach Bob Knight, became a graduate assistant at the school and assisted Knight for a decade.

So, whether or not Dakich openly admits his support for the Hoosiers, who he coached for seven games on an interim basis in 2008 after Kelvin Sampson was dismissed, Dakich clearly has allegiance here. That should make for an interesting broadcast as he’s been conditioned his entire life to hate Purdue and adore the Hoosiers.
