UPDATE: JaJuan Johnson AND E’Twaun Moore Traded to Rockets

facebooktwitterreddit

Former Purdue JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore have been traded from the Boston Celtics to the Houston Rockets. In return the Celtics will receive guard Courtney Lee in a sign and trade. Johnson and Moore had trouble getting off the bench last year. With the Celtics drafting Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo in this year’s draft  the writing may have been on the wall for Johnson. Moore looks to be part of the trade just to get a guard in return.

Positive for Johnson is that the Rockets don’t really have anyone that great at the post position outside of Luis Scola who has been rumored as parts of trades as well. Other post players the Rockets currently have are Patrick Patterson, Diamon Simpson(who?), and Greg Smith. The Rockets have also agreed to an offer sheet with Bulls center Omer Asik. The Bulls can match the deal and retain him, but they’d be dumb to do so. As a Bulls fan Asik is all potential right now. He is a good rebounder but that is it. He wouldn’t be someone that would hold JJ back in his development.

For E’Twaun it looks to be a positive as well. The Rockets have a good amount of guards, including newly acquired but would prefer to be in New York Jeremy Lin, but none of them are on the level he was competing with on the Celtics. The Rockets have to decide to pick up Moore’s contract by midnight Sunday in order to keep him. He becomes an unrestricted free agent if they don’t. Moore is playing really well in the summer league so far, so if his contract isn’t picked up he will find a team.
